More About Us
LSC was founded in 2001 by its Music Director Andrew Mellor
and a group of 15 talented young singers with Liverpool connections.
Specialising in English choral works from the 16th, 17th,
20th and 21st centuries, LSC aims to present great choral
music in a plain and unpretentious manner, so that its performance
may be seen as an appropriate gesture in contemporary life.
Through musical performance and preparation LSC aims to explore
the effects of an artistic journey on personal relationships
and development; every project is seen as an enriching human
experience independent of the packaged artistic product, though
not irrespective of it.
As LSC enters its sixth year in 2007, it is still discovering
its own capabilities in terms of general outlook and positioning;
performance format; repertoire; public support and the logistics
of UK and international touring. LSC currently aims to present
two projects per year - a weekend residency somewhere in the
UK in the winter and a week-long tour in the UK or abroad
each summer. So far, LSC has performed in Norfolk, Merseyside,
Cambridgeshire, Surrey, Kent, Devon, Cornwall, Northumbria,
County Durham and London and recently made its debut foreign
tour to Riga in Latvia. The group has broadcast on BBC radio
and worked on performance projects with The National Trust,
Cambridge University and Channel Four Television.
Without support from generous charitable organisations and
sponsors LSC would not exist. The group is particularly grateful
to The John Lewis Partnership for its ongoing support of UK
activities and running costs; to the Albert Cooper Music Charitable
Trust for its support of this website; and to The Hemby Trust
for its major support of our tour to Riga.
